Our story

What “the third cup” means to us

By Marco Ruiz · · 1 min read

There's an old saying from the mountains of northern Pakistan: the first time you share tea with someone, you're a stranger. The second time, you're an honoured guest. The third time, you're family.

When we opened in 2019 we didn't know many people in the neighbourhood. The saying became our plan: learn names, remember orders, and give people a reason to come back a third time.

Refills on the house

Batch brew refills are free if you're staying in. It costs us a little coffee and it buys an extra half hour of conversation, which is the whole point of a café.

Names on the wall

Behind the bar there's a board with our regulars' names and their usual orders. New baristas study it before their first shift. It's the closest thing we have to a training manual.

“Come for one, stay for the third.”

So pull up a chair. The first cup is on us to make, the second is on us to remember, and the third one is why we're here.
